About the Series

Under the Skin.png

Under the Skin is a health equity series that explores the hidden history shaping Black health today.

Each episode goes deep on one theme, connecting past to present, and knowledge to action. We ask three questions every time: What hasn't changed? What historical practices still influence medicine today? And most importantly, what can we do about it?

This series is inspired by Linda Villarosa's groundbreaking book, Under the Skin: The Hidden Toll of Racism on Health in America. We encourage everyone to read it to understand what we've overcome and to see the path forward.

This is wellness as knowledge. This is knowledge as power.

Meet Your Hosts

We're Christina and Keith Blocker, co-founders of Elevate Black Wellness.

We created Under the Skin because we believe knowledge is protection. When we understand the history that shaped the systems we navigate today, we're better equipped to advocate for ourselves, our families, and our communities.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for caring. And thank you for building with us.
